Storing Your Will Safely
You’ve created your Will, now what?
Storing your Will safely is just as important as creating one. The same as if you didn’t have a Will, if your Will cannot be found, your possessions will be passed down according to the Rules of Intestacy, which could mean in the wrong hands!
Storing your own Will
If you have chosen to store your own Will, here’s a few things you need to bear in mind:
• You might think it’s a good idea to store your Will in a safety deposit box. But if no one except you knows how to access it, then this isn’t a suitable storage option.
• If you’re storing your Will with other paperwork, be careful you don’t accidently throw it out.
• Even if your Will is slightly damaged, it could be deemed invalid.
• Make sure that you don’t attach anything to it, such as other papers, staples or even paperclips. If there is evidence there has been something attached, it may be decided that part of the Will is missing that may have contained an amendment. This could also deem your will to be invalid.
Storing your Will with Protego
• Your Will will be stored at a secure facility and you’ll be given a certificate of registration.

Keeping your Will safe and accessible is really important. Without having your Will to hand your family would have to apply for Probate, a lengthy potentially stressful process which can be easily avoided.
